Yayasan Humanis dan Inovasi Sosial (hereinafter: Humanis), an affiliate organization of Hivos, is a Jakarta-based non-profit development organization that works across the Southeast Asia region. As the name itself suggests, Humanis envisions just and sustainable societies in Southeast Asia that fulfill and protect the rights of each individual, as well as respect differences and backgrounds. To achieve our vision, we focus on three impact areas: Gender Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (GEDI), Civic Rights in the Digital Age (CRIDA), and Climate Justice. Currently, we have ongoing programs in Indonesia, Timor-Leste, the Philippines, and Vietnam.

Duration : 1 (one) year
The three-year FEAST! Project (“Project”) aims to achieve enhanced food security, long-term food sustainability, and overall physical health of the people in eight districts in Flores Island, East Nusa Tenggara Province of Indonesia. This will be achieved through providing women and men farmers with sustainable farming practices and climate-smart agricultural technologies, supporting these farmers with capacity building on essential nutrition, alternative local crops, food preparation and processing, and access to local food marker, so that they will be able to increase crop yields, improve food availability and stability, and improve overall nutrition of themselves and their family member.
The Project targets 28,040 direct beneficiaries, which consists of 8,000 farmers (with the minimum of 50% women farmers) benefit from sustainable agriculture practices/CSA, GALS/FALS, diversified and nutritious food options, and financial literacy, 40 Village Champions benefit from training of trainers (sustainable agriculture practices/CSA, GALS/FALS, diversified and nutritious food options, and financial literacy), and 20,000 family members benefit from first-hand knowledge on diversified and nutritious food options. Furthermore, 10,000 indirect beneficiaries of local community members and the public benefit from knowledge on diversified and nutritious food options.
The Project Manager (PM) plays a key role in leading and managing the comprehensive execution of projects across eight districts in Flores Island. Based in Labuan Bajo, the PM oversees project planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, learning (MEL), and reporting to ensure the achievement of Project outcomes. This role requires strategic leadership in fostering strong donor relationships, coordinating with internal teams and external partners, and managing project risks with timely adjustments.
The PM ensures Project integration among donors, Humanis, and implementing partners, guiding the Project team toward successful project delivery. This role demands expertise in agriculture, food security, farmer empowerment, and women empowerment within the Indonesian context, along with strong leadership, resource mobilization, and coordination skills.
Functional Context
The position of Project Manager (PM) is vertically linked to the positions mentioned above under Program Development Manager Climate Justice and coordinates and supervises the Project team, consisting of at least Engagement and MEL Manager (EMEL), MEL Officer, Project Assistant, Financial Officer, and other team members to be recruited as required. Within the Project, s/he may work in close partnership with support functions, with the Communications Officer, DME&L, Finance, and other functions
Roles and responsibilities
The Project Manager will serve as the main point of contact for the agreement with donor, implementing partners and stakeholders by providing leadership and technical guidance to all stakeholders in ensuring successful planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting, which include:
A. Strategic Management and Leadership
- Develop and oversee the overall Project operational strategy and its implementation, ensuring Project milestones achievement as per Project agreement, alignment with Humanis goals, alignment with implementing partners’ goals, while responding to the unique challenges of Flores Island.
- Lead, manage, and provide leadership and direction to the Project team and implementation partners to meet Project milestones, while fostering collaboration and accountability of each team member and partners
- Identify opportunities for Project sustainability, innovation, and scaling up including but not limited to through collaboration with other projects/impact area within Humanis, other projects managed by the donor, and other organizations relevant to the Project.
B. Project Implementation and Coordination
- Oversees Project’s overall key performance indicators and ensures compliance with donor and regulations at local and national level.
- Oversee the planning and implementation of Project components such as sustainable agriculture practices, climate-smart agriculture (CSA), family nutrition monitoring and improvement, and gender-inclusive approaches like GALS/FALS.
- Ensure timely delivery of capacity-building initiatives for farmers and Village Champions, focusing on food security, nutrition, and financial literacy.
- Collaborate with local stakeholders, including government, CSOs, and community organizations, to strengthen Project
- Monitor the progress of field activities and provide technical guidance to ensure Project objectives are met.
- Manage the portfolio team members’ day-to-day activities, as well as professional development, including periodic performance assessment, and facilitation of capacity development Action Plans to assist staff members reach their full potential.
C. Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning, and Reporting
- Contribute to the development and implementation of an MEL Plan to track Project
- Oversee data collection, analysis, and reporting to donors, partners, and stakeholders both periodical and ad-hoc reports.
- Use Project data to drive decision-making and recommend necessary adjustments to achieve Project goals
D. Donor and Stakeholder Engagement
- Build and maintain relationships with donors as well as implementing partners, national and local government bodies, and local communities especially those directly linked to the Project.
- Represent the Project in external forums, advocating for gender-inclusive, climate-resilient sustainable agricultural practices.
- Ensure transparent communication with donors, implementing partners and stakeholders to maintain trust and Project
- To forge strong relationships and builds supportive networks with relevant stakeholders (i.e national Ministeries, provincial and district governments, local CSOs, and local communities) and managing communication about the Project and the relevant work of the Project’s stakeholders.
E. Resource Mobilization and Budget Management
- Manage Project budgets, ensuring cost-effectiveness and alignment with donor requirements.
- Monitor financial performance and address discrepancies promptly.
F. Alignment with Humanis
Contribute to the Yayasan Humanis dan Inovasi Sosial portfolio for the development of Climate Justice programs
Knowledge, experiences and competencies
A. Education
Tertiary education and relevant professional experience (must be of 5+ years) in agricultural or food sciences, social sciences, development studies, or related fields.
B. Experience
- Progressively responsible international and/or domestic work experience implementing multi-sector development projects, demonstrating strong project management and stakeholder coordination skills.
- Management experience, including direct supervision of professional and support staff and assembling teams working on multi-faceted international development projects.
- Experience in sustainable agriculture, food security, community development, and women empowerment, particularly in rural contexts.
- Experience developing and managing engagement with multi-stakeholders at community, district, and national levels.
- Experience mobilizing project resources, donor relations, and partner engagement and accountability.
- Experience in grant management, including procurement and administration.
- Experience in designing or implementing projects that integrate behavioral change approaches is an advantage.
- Strong track record of leading multidisciplinary teams and achieving measurable project outcomes.
C. Knowledge
- Comprehensive understanding of food security and sustainability, with a focus on gender-inclusive agricultural practices.
- Familiarity with addressing gender equality in rural agricultural and food security projects, demonstrated by at least 2 years of senior-level experience on gender-related projects.
- In-depth knowledge of socio-economic, cultural, and environmental challenges in Flores Island and NTT.
- Familiarity with project management principles, including strategic planning, monitoring, evaluation and learning (M&E), and stakeholder engagement.
- Demonstrated excellent communication and writing abilities and superior interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills;
