Yayasan Humanis dan Inovasi Sosial is an Indonesian organization affiliated with Hivos, born out of an active collaboration between Netherlands-based Hivos and several like-minded Indonesian academics and civil society leaders who subscribe to the values and mission of Hivos. The purpose is to promote humanist values in the social, health, and cultural fields which is defined in terms of the ability for each individual to assess and decide independently and responsibly, the right to freedom, dignity, and a passion to create a just and tolerant society.

Yayasan Humanis seeks qualified candidates for the position of Communication Consultant.

1. AIM OF THE JOB

The Communication Consultant assists the Communication Officer to develop communication strategies, organize online and offline communication activities (e.g. for conferences, seminars), develop and disseminates communication materials, and enables Yayasan Hivos and Hivos communities and their partners to communicate effectively.

The Communication Consultant assists the Communication Officer to work with the Project Managers (put special attention to MENTARI and ACTION Projects) and teams in the communication dimension of the programme or project; provides the communication framework to which the project performance adheres and positions according to the corporate values, identity, standards, formats and tools for internal and external profiling and positioning. He/she may take specialized communication positions varying from lobbying to designing social media activities relevant to the project.

The Communication Consultant is supporting the Communication Officer who is partly responsible for corporate communication and branding at the regional level. The Communication Consultant assists the Communication Officer to ensure that local and regional communication activities are aligned with Yayasan Hivos and Hivos’ corporate communication strategy, values, identity, standards and formats.

The Communication Consultant assists the Communication Officer to manage the Yayasan website www.hsi.foundation and social media channels, as well as content for Hivos published on www.hivos.org in coordination with Hivos, and social media channels of Hivos. He/she also writes texts and develops or provides visual content (photos, illustrations, videos, and infographics) for the organization’s online media, keep the websites and regional social media accounts up to date.

To support both aspects of the work, the Communication Consultant should be abreast of developments in the region (new projects, programmes, funds, newsworthy information about partners and programmes, social and political developments, etc.).

2. FUNCTIONAL CONTEXT

The Communication Consultant assists the Communication Officer to work together with partner organizations, programme and project officers at a regional and local level and with the communication specialist, communication officers, and at Hivos’ global office in The Hague. The objective is for the Communications Officer to ensure that all communication activities are aligned with Hivos’ corporate communication strategy, values, identity, standards, and formats.

3. ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

3.1 Corporate

The roles and responsibilities of the Communication Consultant are to assist and support the Communication Officer in the following corporate activities:

a) To assess the communication needs of Yayasan Hivos and Hivos for developing communications objectives and plans.

b) To design, develop, implement and evaluate the overall communication and public relations strategy for all projects (put special attention to MENTARI and ACTION projects), appropriate to target audiences and the message being conveyed.

c) To develop strategic outreach for the communications materials.

d) To lead in documenting and publishing in creative ways organizations’ works (e.g. through photos/ art/ pictures).

e) To write reports and prepare documentation that is accessible (in English, support translation into Bahasa Indonesia and vice versa).

f) To share and explore best practices within the organizations’ domains (GEDI, Civic Rights in Digital Age, Climate Justice) and share it with other regional offices/Global Office.

g) To respond and maintain regular contact with the Hivos Global Office, especially the communication team.

h) To support communication program needs by the organization’s domains and projects.

i) To develop and deliver all public relations and communication materials, ensuring the quality of content, production, and delivery, including preparing and supervising the production of publicity brochures, handouts, promotional videos, photographs, films, and multimedia programs as well as the management of Yayasan website (development and content management) and social media accounts.

j) To compile and organize news material (information and photographs) to be exposed on the web, newsletter, social media, and other media.

k) To be responsible for knowledge management by writing, documenting, and disseminating know-how, experience (highlighting success stories, good practices, and lessons learned), and information through various communication channels.

l) To manage good relationship with the media for story coverage (print, radio, TV), writing press releases and news updates for the media, pitch for media partners in programs, develop media reports on PR/media value on the program as part of donor report and mobilization of journalists for the site visit.

m) To manage Yayasan website and social media accounts up to date with tasks as below:

  • Write/create content (including arranging visuals or video): (a) News items about the organizations partners, projects, events and concerns (e.g. statements about/for/against certain developments); (b) Items for the home page photo carousel; (c) Stories about/ interviews with partners or relevant actors; (d) Other website content
  • Manage social media accounts: Post and/or tweet regularly; build up a broad base of regional followers.
  • Site maintenance: Publish regional vacancies; Update local contact persons; Check links; Keep home page carousel fresh.
  • Act as contact person for managing editor of www.hsi.foundation: (a) Act as liaison between local office(s) in the region (who can also provide content) and Yayasan Hivos & Hivos; (b) Ensure that Hivos communications guidelines are adhered to by Yayasan Hivos.

n) Provide visual content (photos, graphics a/o videos) for regional content and social media.

o) Work with communications officers at other regional offices when requested.

p) Keep abreast of and implement the organizations’ communications guidelines.

3.2 Projects

The roles and responsibilities of the Communication Consultant is to assist and support the Communication Officer in the following project activities with all projects (put special attention to ACTION Project https://hivos.org/program/action/ and MENTARI project http://www.mentari.info/):

a) Update the project communication, branding and visibility strategy and plan

b) Discuss with program teams to ensure communication output is in progress based on the workplan; Coordinate closely with local partners and relevant stakeholders

c) Assist team, partners, consultants and relevant stakeholders in developing and producing communication materials; Review and ensure it complies with the project communication and visibility plan

d) Prepare and/or assist the publication content planning

e) Update knowledge management strategy and plan and execute the plan by writing, documenting and disseminating know-how, experience and information through various knowledge management products through several communication channels

f) Develop and execute plan for a frequent newsletter production, including writing the content

g) Maintain project website and social media channels

h) Join regular meeting with the internal teams, partners and donors

i) Facilitate regular meeting with communication teams with partners and donors

4. QUALIFICATIONS

The Communication Consultant must comply with the following qualifications:

  • Affinity for Hivos’ vision and mission and are driven by a strong motivation to contribute to real and lasting change.
  • Knowledge of and experience in the field of international development cooperation and excellent skills in the development and implementation of communication strategies.
  • Know how to reach target groups through innovative and conventional media.
  • Excellent writing and organizational skills.
  • 5 years of working experience, in particular with corporate and campaigning, communication, copywriting for another similar website and use of social media.
  • Strong communicator in both English and Bahasa.
  • Innovative and flexible and able to work in a complex environment with multiple stakeholders and international partners.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, excellent knowledge of corporate communication and branding, experience with content management systems, and preferably with image editing.
  • Skills in graphic designs is an advantage
