Consultant Philanthropic Mapping Assessment in Southeast Asia

Yayasan Humanis dan Inovasi Sosial (Yayasan Hivos) is an Indonesian organization affiliated with Hivos, born out of an active collaboration between Netherlands based Hivos and several like-minded Indonesian academics and civil society leaders who subscribe to the values and mission of Hivos. The purpose is to promote humanist values in the social, health, and cultural fields which is defined in terms of the ability for each individual to assess and decide independently and responsibly, the right to freedom, dignity and a passion to create a just and tolerant society.

Yayasan Hivos seeks qualified candidates for the position of Consultant Philanthropic Mapping Assessment in SEA.

Background

Yayasan Humanis dan Inovasi Sosial/ Humanist and Social Innovation Foundation (hereinafter: Yayasan Hivos) has been officially established in Indonesia on March 2021 prior to its decade-long presence through Dutch-based Hivos. For its decentralization and locally-shaped progress, Yayasan Hivos is in the phase of developing its strategy along with relevant guidelines and policies that align with its core principle as a humanist organization.

In Southeast Asia, the Yayasan is inheriting all Hivos’ programs and projects. For over a decade, Hivos SEA has been working with international development agencies and donors in delivering impactful projects and programs in Southeast Asia (Indonesia, the Philippines, Timor Leste and Myanmar) fits with the organization’s humanist value and impacts priorities in Gender Equality Diversity and Inclusion (GEDI), Civic Rights in Digital Age and Climate Justice.

In the last five years in particular over two years of the global Covid 19 pandemic, there has been a shift in ODA support in the region and the growing philanthropy contribution to development agenda coming from private foundations and donors from Asia countries. Yayasan Hivos has limited experience working with these institutions and as independent non-profit organization that needs keep on evolving in delivering impacts to the society, there is a great interest to expand our knowledge and intelligence to diversify our network with these institutions that have similar interest and ambition in making transformation change in the impact areas mentioned.

Approach and Scope of Work

Based on the background, Yayasan Hivos aims to get deeper intelligence on 10 identified selected institutions that we have identified. We are seeking a consultant or a small team of consultants to undertake a thorough assessment of the key persons in charge, priority of issues in Indonesia, the Philippines and Timor Leste in the next five years, and different kind of partnership processes recommended. The assignment should also analyses the SWOT towards Yayasan Hivos portfolio, expertise and strategic direction in our three Impact Areas; GEDI, Civic Rights in Digital Age and Climate Justice.

Assignment

The selected consultant/team of consultant will conduct assessment analysis of selected identified institutions on:

  • Key priority issues, interest and commitment in the next five years with size of partnership funding available with specific persons in charge and contact details;
  • Summary of past and current implementing partners with program objectives and impacts;
  • Light due diligence on the source of funding. As a non-profit organisation, Yayasan Hivos has to maintain its neutrality towards certain religious or political views, including businesses/operations that are not involved with the oil and gas industry, tobacco, child labour, and corruptions track records;
  • Typical of partnership engagement involvement and preferable public exposure;
  • Develop recommendations based on the findings towards Yayasan Hivos’ portfolio, expertise and strategic direction.

Consultant(s) who are able to set up an introduction/pitch meeting for Yayasan Hivos with the identified institutions will be an advantage.

Deliverables

  • Draft and Final Inception Report with clear assessment methodology.
  • Present the findings in a well-organized, well-justified manner of maximum 25 pages final report.
