Internship Opportunity: Communication Intern for Open Contracting Program

Hivos Southeast Asia (Hivos SEA) seeks qualified Indonesian candidates for the position of Communication Intern for Open Contracting Program.

Background

Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Deputy Commissioner, Alexander Marwata, said that 80 percent of corruption cases they handled were related to public procurement. Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) also revealed that Indonesia lost around Rp 1.5 trillion to corruption in public procurement in 2017. This is wasted taxpayer money.

To address the issues, Hivos and partners such as Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW), Publish What You Pay (PWYP) Indonesia, Transparency International (TI) Indonesia, PATTIRO Semarang, Bojonegoro Institute, and Alliance of Independent Journalist (AJI) Jakarta have been implementing an open contracting program in Indonesia. The project is a part of a broader program of Open Up Public Contracting between Hivos and Article 19 at the global level.

Through this program, we work to empower the citizens to get the best quality of public services (health and education) through their engagement in development, especially in public procurement process, and participate in monitoring the government’s procurement projects. We also develop civil society capacity to translate procurement and contracting data into actionable information for evidence-based advocacy with governments.

Hivos understands we need to deliver clear messages and call for action to the public to get people to support our works and advocacy. To help reach that purpose, therefore, we are opening an internship program for individuals who are interested on anti-corruption issues and have willingness to contribute for a better and more inclusive public service delivery through campaign and content development.

Roles

The communication intern will be a part of the Freedom and Accountability team, and learn on how communication skills can be applied in a non-profit organization.  He/she will work closely with Communication and Knowledge Management Officer for Open Contracting Program.

The intern will be involved in creating engaging content about anti-corruption and public services issues for Hivos’ website and social media as well as assisting the team in monitoring its impact. This is a great opportunity to learn how to craft the most effective media campaign.
