Yayasan Humanis dan Inovasi Sosial (hereinafter: Humanis), an affiliate organization of Hivos, is a Jakarta-based non-profit development organization that works across the Southeast Asia region. Humanis works with marginalized groups and frontrunners to exercise rights and freedoms, bring about changes, influence decisions and hold those in power to account. As the name itself suggests, Humanis envisions just and sustainable societies in Southeast Asia that fulfill and protect the rights of each individual, as well as respect differences and backgrounds. To achieve our vision, we focus on three impact areas: Gender Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (GEDI), Civic Rights in the Digital Age (CRIDA), and Climate Justice. Currently, we have ongoing programs in Indonesia, Timor-Leste, the Philippines, and Vietnam.

 Aim of the Job

The three-year FEAST! program (“Program”) aims to achieve enhanced food security, long-term food sustainability, and overall physical health of the people in eight districts in Flores Island, East Nusa Tenggara Province of Indonesia. This will be achieved through providing women and men farmers with sustainable farming practices and climate-smart agricultural technologies, supporting these farmers with capacity building on essential nutrition, alternative local crops, food preparation and processing, and access to local food marker, so that they will be able to increase crop yields, improve food availability and stability, and improve overall nutrition of themselves and their family member.

 

The Program targets 28,040 direct beneficiaries, which consists of 8,000 farmers (with the minimum of 50% women farmers) benefit from sustainable agriculture practices/CSA, GALS/FALS, diversified and nutritious food options, and financial literacy, 40 Village Champions benefit from training of trainers (sustainable agriculture practices/CSA, GALS/FALS, diversified and nutritious food options, and financial literacy), and 20,000 family members benefit from first-hand knowledge on diversified and nutritious food options. Furthermore, 10,000 indirect beneficiaries of local community members and the public benefit from knowledge on diversified and nutritious food options.

 

The Communication Staff – Field (COMMFIELD) is a key role within the Program, providing the communication framework to which the Program performance adheres and positions according to the corporate values, identity, standards and formats and tools for internal and external profiling and positioning. Together with the Communication Staff – Jakarta (COMMJKT), the COMMFIELD focuses on the strategy and implementation of communication functions, including information management, social media management, and media relations, and ensuring the Program’s progress, learning, and outcomes are accurately packaged, disseminated, and understood by Donor, partners, Humanis team, media and other relevant stakeholders. This Jakarta-based position is critical for effective program execution across eight districts in Flores Island as the program locus.

 

Functional Context

The COMMFIELD is part of the Program team, working under supervision of PM and Humanis Communication Officer (COMM), coordinating with COMMJKT, Monitoring Evaluation and Learning Officer (MEL), and Engagement Officer (ENG), and the Donor’s communication team to ensure that all communication activities are aligned with both Humanis and Donor’s corporate communication strategy, values, identity, standards and formats. This position may be combined with other roles, including supporting Humanis communication functions

 

In terms of information management, COMMFIELD serves as the hub between the Donor and Humanis team in Jakarta with the Program team in the field, ensuring information – in agreed forms and format – is kept updated, documented, and distributed to the Donor, Humanis team, and relevant stakeholders. Together with COMMJKT, and coordinating with PM, ENG, and MEL, the COMMJKT develops the Program information management strategy and leads the implementation activities, especially those that are related with the Donor, Humanis team, and relevant stakeholders outside of Program location.

 

In terms of social media management, COMMFIELD serves as the go-to-person in providing ready-to-use information materials aimed at maintaining Program and Humanis presence in agreed social media platform. Together with COMMJKT, coordinating with the Donor social media team, and under supervision of COMM, COMMFIELD ensures a smooth and timely process and professional level outputs in social media content planning, production and publication as well as engagement with social media users, achieving the outputs that contribute to the Program results

 

In terms of media relations, COMMFIELD is coordinating with COMMJKT to serve as the Program contact person, maintaining correct, appropriate and timely response to requests for information, requests for interviews, and other queries from journalists and media in the Program locations. Together with COMMJKT, coordinating with the Donor media team, and under supervision of Humanis COMM, COMMFIELD ensures Program exposure in media is maintained, achieving the outputs that contribute to the Program results.

 

Roles and responsibilities

  1. Coordinate with COMMJKT and COMM to develop and implement an effective FEAST! communication and campaign strategy to support FEAST! Theory of Change and achievements.
  2. Coordinate with partners to produce raw communication material (photo, video, and draft articles) based on agreed-upon communication strategy and plan.
  3. Apply the agreed-upon visual identity guideline to all communications materials, including conducting quality control on partner’s communications products
  4. Liaise with COMMJKT, generate high-quality social media content for FEAST! This includes generating copywriting, content writing, graphic design, visual assets, and videos if needed, to achieve the minimum agreed target as follows:
    1. Impact stories/press release to be published every quarter (4 impact stories per year, total 12 impact stories), and
    2. Digital content to be published every 2 weeks throughout the Program implementation period
  5. Liaise with the COMM in local media (NTT) relations, including creating draft media releases, distributing media releases, communicating with media contacts, organizing media visits, and other media relations tasks.
  6. Another communication and campaign-related task to support the project Theory of Change that may be suitable with the scope of work of COMMFIELD
  7. Collaborate closely with the COMM to effectively manage the flow of FEAST! communication and publication across all organizational communication channels.

 

Knowledge, experiences and competencies

This is a junior to mid-level position for Indonesian individual:

  1. Knowledge:
    1. Demonstrated understanding of gender dynamics in the climate crisis and the ability to communicate effectively about sustainable agriculture, food security, and issues about women’s farmers.
    2. Sensitivity to cultural nuances and the ability to communicate effectively across diverse cultural contexts, ensuring inclusivity and relevance of messaging.   2. Experience:
    1. A minimum of one year of experience in social media campaigns and communication with other key stakeholders
    2. Experience in developing and implementing strategic communication plans tailored to engage diverse audiences, including policymakers, activists, media, and the general public.
    3. Experience in utilizing various communication channels and mediums, including social media, traditional media, online platforms, and visual storytelling, to effectively convey messages.
    4. Experience in working collaboratively with project stakeholders, including media, youth leaders, NGOs, government agencies, and community-based organizations, to amplify the voices of the most vulnerable communities.
    5. Experience in developing and implementing a monitoring and evaluation framework to assess the impact of communication strategies on raising awareness and mobilizing support.
    6. Experience in media engagements and relations, including creating media release, organizing media visits, and liaising with media on coverage is an advantage.
  3. Competencies:
    1. Proficient skills in photography and videography are an advantage
    2. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to articulate complex concepts in a clear and compelling manner, and deliver engaging presentations to diverse audiences.
    3. Ability to coordinate with project stakeholders in managing multiple priorities and deliver high-quality outputs under tight timelines
