Yayasan Humanis dan Inovasi Sosial (hereinafter: Humanis), an affiliate organization of Hivos, is a Jakarta-based non-profit development organization that works across the Southeast Asia region. Humanis works with marginalized groups and frontrunners to exercise rights and freedoms, bring about changes, influence decisions and hold those in power to account. As the name itself suggests, Humanis envisions just and sustainable societies in Southeast Asia that fulfill and protect the rights of each individual, as well as respect differences and backgrounds. To achieve our vision, we focus on three impact areas: Gender Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (GEDI), Civic Rights in the Digital Age (CRIDA), and Climate Justice. Currently, we have ongoing programs in Indonesia, Timor-Leste, the Philippines, and Vietnam

 

Humanis seeks qualified candidates for the position of:

Background

The Fisherfolk Empowerment for Climate Resilience and Sustainability (FOCUS) project aims at building a sustainable food system for the fisherfolk community in five districts in Central Java (Batang, Kendal, Semarang, Demak, and Jepara) through integrated ocean management. This project is supported by The Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) and is the result of co-creation process between Hivos, Yayasan Humanis dan Inovasi Sosial (Humanis),  Koalisi Rakyat untuk Keadilan Perikanan (KIARA), Pusat Kajian Sumberdaya Pesisir dan Lautan Institut Pertanian Bogor (PKSPL-IPB), and Wahana Lingkungan Hidup Indonesia (WALHI).  The project period is four years from 15 December 2022 – 15 December 2026.

 

FOCUS will cooperate with local governments, community groups and other relevant stakeholders to raise awareness of nutritional issues, coastal management and climate resilience of coastal communities. Advocacy, awareness raising, and capacity development will be provided in cooperation with local authorities and other stakeholders to implement the activities under four outcomes:

  1. Inter-sectoral coordination platform produced policy recommendation/draft of policies/other legal documents on integrated coastal management for a sustainable food system
  2. Local stakeholders apply improved/adaptive sustainable fisheries and coastal management to mitigate disaster risk & impact of climate crisis
  3. Sustainable and inclusive livelihoods opportunities for coastal communities are promoted, particularly among women and the youth
  4. Public increased their understanding and engagement on sustainable management of marine and coastal assets (fisheries, mangroves, reefs) and climate crisis

 

The target group/direct beneficiaries of the project are:

  • 2,000 fisherfolks including small traditional coastal communities currently engaged in fisheries, aquaculture, salt and seaweed farming
  • Government officials at the province and district level (on the development of inclusive planning for ICM)
  • At least 5 Ocean Trade Center as micro, small, and medium size enterprises (MSME)/village-owned enterprise or cooperatives (BUMDES)
  • 14 Community-based Organizations (CBOs)

 

Results

The expected results to achieve:

  1. GESI Strategy and Framework Development

Develop strategy, tools, etc to mainstream and strengthen the values of gender and social inclusion throughout the FOCUS’ program.

  1. Gender and Social Inclusion Implementation

Plans and implements gender and social inclusion strategy including supports local partners in accomplishing deliverables and ensures they are aligned with the values that Humanis upholds within the GEDI Strategy (Gender Equality and Diversity Inclusion) and Humanis’ Policy and Standard Operating Procedure on the Elimination of Sexual Violence.

  1. External Overview/Analysis

Knows what happens and is going to happen/trend? in the project environment related to the issues of gender and social inclusion; provide overview, outlook, analysis in which management and FOCUS’ implementers can better coordinate and provide the interventions when necessary.

  1. Engagement of project teams

Contributes to the definition of SMART within the development of project materials and project reports, and to the evaluation of project results, proactively consults the project manager and other team members.

  1. Quality Improvement

Participates in capacity building, monitoring and evaluation, learning, reflection and other relevant forums on both the project and the institutional level.

 

Expected Deliverables (estimation until December 2024)

  1. GESI Integration Plan and Strategy for FOCUS Project using Gender-Transformative Approach and Intersectionality
  2. GESI Integration Plan and Strategy for Communication and Campaign of FOCUS Project
  3. GESI Integration Plan and Strategy for all Modules produced within the FOCUS Project
  4. Adapt the Gender Action Learning for Sustainability (GALS) for training local partners and local champions
  5. Deliver refreshment training and workshop on GESI and Safeguarding for FOCUS consortium
  6. Deliver GESI training for relevant stakeholders, including local champion

 

Qualifications and Experiences :

  • Relevant professional education level of working and thinking
  • Strong relevant work experience in the development and implementation of gender and social inclusion strategy/approach
  • Work experience on gender and inclusivity issues, climate and environment, human rights-based approach
  • Work experience in an international environment is preferable
  • Excellent writing and organizational skills
  • Ability to work with multiple stakeholders and partners
