Yayasan Humanis dan Inovasi Sosial (hereinafter: Humanis), an affiliate organization of Hivos, is a Jakarta-based non-profit development organization that works across the Southeast Asia region. Humanis works with marginalized groups and frontrunners to exercise rights and freedoms, bring about changes, influence decisions and hold those in power to account. As the name itself suggests, Humanis envisions just and sustainable societies in Southeast Asia that fulfill and protect the rights of each individual, as well as respect differences and backgrounds. To achieve our vision, we focus on three impact areas: Gender Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (GEDI), Civic Rights in the Digital Age (CRIDA), and Climate Justice. Currently, we have ongoing programs in Indonesia, Timor-Leste, and the Philippines.
Humanis seeks qualified candidates for the position of:

Guiding Principles
The consultant shall comply with the principles stipulated in the Humanis Safeguarding Policy to ensure the assessment processes are promoting and protecting people’s health, well-being and human rights, and enabling them to live free of harm, exploitation and abuse. The Policy entails a wide range of policies, procedures and activities seeking to address the welfare of staff, partner organization(s) and those come in contact with such as children (under 18 years old) and (vulnerable) adults. Consent to participate in the assessment will be given freely, without coercion and influence from financial inducement, improper pressure, or any form of misrepresentation and applying research ethics that ensure and acknowledge respondents’ rights in taking part or to object involvement in the assessment, maximize possible benefits and minimize possible harms.
Background
The Fisherfolk Empowerment for Climate Resilience and Sustainability (FOCUS) program aims at building a sustainable food system for the fisherfolk community in five districts in Central Java (Batang, Kendal, Semarang, Demak, and Jepara) through integrated coastal management. This program is supported by The Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) and is the result of co-creation process between Hivos, Yayasan Humanis dan Inovasi Sosial (Humanis), Koalisi Rakyat untuk Keadilan Perikanan (KIARA), Pusat Kajian Sumberdaya Pesisir dan Lautan, IPB University (PKSPL-IPB), and Wahana Lingkungan Hidup Indonesia (WALHI). The program period is four years from 15 December 2022 – 15 December 2026.
As of March 2025, KIARA and WALHI have identified and are working with several community-based organizations/ community groups to develop value chain of several aquatic commodities and mangrove- based food products. Additionally, Humanis collaborated with a consultant team from Soegijapranata Catholic University to conduct a Nutrition Sensitive Value Chain (NSVC) assessment to identify potential aquatic products that could be developed to enhance both the nutritional status and livelihoods of coastal communities.
As part of the project strategy, particularly under Outcome 3, the FOCUS team will provide capacity building to the selected groups on Good Handling Practices (GHP) and processing techniques for their aquatic products to enhance product safety and quality, while reducing food loss. Through the training, participants are expected to gain knowledge, improve their handling practices, and share the knowledge with other community members.
Objective
Under this assignment, the consultant is expected to:
– Develop training modules on Good Handling Practices (GHP) and processing techniques for aquatic and mangrove-based products, covering food safety principles and preservation methods.
– Conduct relevant tests and assessments for selected products/commodities with potential for further development, including but not limited to laboratory testing, field trials, etc. for selected products/commodities which have potential for further development
– Organize Training of Trainers (ToT) sessions for selected Community Based Organizations/ fisherfolks groups from the nine FOCUS target villages.
The consultant shall use the project’s Nutrition Sensitive Value Chain Assessment (NSVC) assessment report as the main references for this assignment.
Qualifications and Experiences :
The consultants may be an institution and/or a team of specialists. The following are the collective selection criteria for the institution or consultant team:
● Proven expertise in GHP and food processing methods, with a good track record in similar projects
● Good understanding of coastal conditions, environmental and socio-economic challenges along the northern coast of Central Java, especially the FOCUS project areas.
● Excellent reporting and communication skills.
