Gender Consultant for SD4ALL Program (re-ads)

Hivos  seeks qualified candidates for the position of Gender Consultant for SD4ALL Program.

In January 2016, Hivos together with IIED launched a 5-year strategic partnership with the Dutch Government to transform the food system and promote sustainable diets. Sustainable diets are healthy and diverse, respectful of ecosystems, culturally acceptable and economically fair and affordable for all. Together with civil society organizations, the Sustainable Diets for All (SD4All) program aims to influence the policies and practices of governments and the private sector. The program supports civil society organizations to increase their capacity to influence policy and practices of market and government actors through citizen research, action and related advocacy to promote sustainable diets for all.

The program also supports civil society organizations to work with frontrunner movements, companies, local governments and the media to generate change at both the producer and consumer level. It will engage with farmers, food vendors, governments, private sector and other civil society organizations to create coalitions of the willing for resilient and diverse regions and cities.

Meanwhile, SDALL also contributes to the Switch Asia Local Harvest that promotes a switch to sustainable consumption and production of green, healthy, fair and local food by consumers and Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

The Gender Consultant (or consultant team) will assess, evaluate the current gender-related outcomes from SD4All program and provide recommendation for gender capacity building and implementation for the program’s various initiatives in Indonesia, including but not limited to the New Generation of Indonesian Cooking pilot project in Bandung, promotion of healthy, local and creative food in Jember (with Tanoker Foundation), as well as linkage with the activities under Switch Asia Local Harvest program, such as in Kapuas Hulu (with NTFP-EP).

The following are the expected deliverables from the consultant :

1. Assess progress in developing the gender capacity of the organisations in the partnership (include Hivos and partners), against the 5C (capacity) assessments conducted in 2016 and 2018 as well as the program’s gender assessment in 2019.

2. This assessment includes identification of potentials on gender issues in the following:

  • Working with champions for women’s issues, including women leaders
  • Working in collaboration with others to advance women’s issues
  • Creating spaces for women’s voices

3. Facilitate a two-day training on gender mainstreaming for partner organization staff and co-implementers of the SD4All program based on Hivos Gender Equality Diversity and Inclusivity (GEDI) strategy. The Consultant will liaise with Hivos Program Officer for GEDI.

4. Devise a gender evaluation process for current and future initiatives related to food system, including from project proposal to evaluation

5. Build a knowledge agenda and database on gender-related outcomes in SD4All program – using partners network and case studies.

6. Provide recommendations for gender capacity building and implementation for the program, this includes a plan for further support to partners to adjust and update their monitoring frameworks and program’s Theory of Change.

The consultant will work for 4 months from October 2019 to January 2020.
