Project Manager FOCUS Ocean

Yayasan Humanis dan Inovasi Sosial is an Indonesian organization affiliated with Hivos, born out of an active collaboration between Netherlands based Hivos and several like-minded Indonesian academics and civil society leaders who subscribe to the values and mission of Hivos. The purpose is to promote humanistic values in the social, economic, health, and cultural fields which is defined in terms of the ability for each individual to assess and decide independently and responsibly, the right to freedom, dignity and a passion to create a just and tolerant society.

Yayasan seeks qualified candidates for the position of:

Duration           :  1 (one) year

 

 

Yayasan upcoming four-year Fisherfolk Empowerment for Climate Resilience and Sustainability in Central Java (FOCUS) program aims to achieve changes on Integrated coastal management for a sustainable food system for the fisherfolk community in Central Java.

 

We aim to achieve this in five target districts in Central Java (Kendal, Demak, Semarang, Jepara and Batang). Program implementation will be co-implemented by partners to achieve the following outcomes:

  1. Inter-sectoral coordination platform produced policy recommendation on integrated coastal management for a sustainable food system;
  2. Local stakeholders apply improved sustainable fisheries and coastal management to mitigate disaster risk & impact of climate change; and
  3. Sustainable & inclusive livelihoods opportunities for coastal communities are promoted, particularly among women and the youth.

 

An inception phase in 2023 will further sharpen the framework. Through this, we harness the energy and expertise of partners to stimulate locally-owned innovations and multi-stakeholder collaborations.

 

Functional Context

The Project Manager may work with the YH’s Communications Officer, DMEL and Finance Officer. He/she also coordinate with the Liason Manager at Hivos Global Office.

 

 

Roles and responsibilities

 

  1. Accountable for the overall project delivery, partners and staff performance towards meeting project commitments and results.
  2. Lead and coordinate project to ensure effective design, implementation including grant-making, adaptive/flexible management and reporting including monitoring, evaluation and learning agenda.
  3. Work closely with local partners, government, private sector, associations, academics and other actors to engage in building a sustainable and integrated coastal management system in Central Java.
  4. Liaise with DMEL Coordinator to ensure cross-learning, sharing of best practices and strategic coherence across YH’s impact areas.
  5. Identify the needs of partners, associates, and target groups and provide tailor-made capacity development for advocacy and public engagement through research, training, and exchange.
  6. Lead and inspire implementing team, ensure an open, creative, dynamic and effective working environment, and collaborate closely with partners.
  7. Active in building collaboration with other programs and actors in leveraging the project impact with the objective of sustainability and scale up.
  8. To represent the project and Yayasan Hivos in relevant conferences/external events and contribute to the overall organisational and program development within the Climate Justice impact area.

 

 

Knowledge, experiences and competencies

  1. Master’s degree or equivalent professional experiences (must be minimum of five years) in sustainable development, food systems/policy, ocean and environmental sector, climate governance.
  2. Minimum of five years’ work experience as project lead/manager in an international (NGO) context with specific experience on project and grant making management and partners engagement.
  3. Good understanding of food systems approach, ecosystem building, and multi-actor collaboration, preferably in coastal landscape.
  4. Demonstrable in-country network, experience and track record engaging local governments, local champions and other stakeholders in the coastal landscape.
  5. Keen understanding of relevant political and social dynamics; analytical and conceptual skills, and ability to translate these into relevant, timely actions.
  6. Ability, experience and commitment to build sustainable ecosystem support for community and environment including women, youth engagement and leadership.
  7. Excellent networking, relationship building and negotiation skills
  8. Excellent verbal, writing and communication skills in English
  9. Sufficient knowledge and passion on gender and social inclusion in development sector
